Dust to Dust
Hardball is a game played by many hardholds (hence the name) and communities, using 2 teams of equal size, but the actual numbers don’t really matter. Each team has a coloured ball, approximately volleyball sized (stocks of which are securely held by hardholds), and a corresponding coloured goal, similar to an ice hockey goal. Teams have to get their ball in the opposing teams goal while simultaneously defending their own goal. When a goal is scored, the ball starts again from a central point. No weapons are allowed, and no permanently damaging moves are permitted. Players who are consistently over-enthusiastic are “discouraged” from playing pretty quickly. Playing fields or arenas vary greatly from hardhold to hardhold, with each one having it’s own size, layout, hazards, etc. Some are open, others are in empty warehouses, each is unique.
Greyweed’s playing field is in the weed wastes, with some but not all of the weed cleared from it. Nils is a regular player in the local games, and with his fairly squat body, long arms and surprising quickness he is extremely versatile, if not particularly agilic. He doesn’t play in the sporadic inter-hardhold games, whether these are in Greyweed, another hardhold, or in a neutral makeshift arena. These games tend to be more full-on, and Nils doesn’t want to risk getting seriously injured, as is not uncommon in these games.
